Srinagar is all set to Host Historic G20 Summit: Srinagar City Revamped, Security Tightened

Jammu and Kashmir will host the three-day working group meeting on tourism of G20 countries in Srinagar (capital J&K) from May 22-24, 2023. It is the first such international event in the valley after the abrogation of Article 370.

The venue for the G20 meeting in Srinagar is Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Center or SKICC. Parts of Srinagar city and the road from Srinagar airport to SKICC have been given a new look with the G20 logo painted on walls and welcome hoardings for the G20 delegates.

Under Srinagar smart city project, Footpaths, roads, Poloview market, and Gulmarg tourist resort has been beautified and provided a new look.

To avoid any terrorist movement or any unexpected happening during this three-day G-20 summit, strict security arrangements have been placed across the Kashmir Valley.

Marine commandos, national security guards, activated anti-drone units, The Army troops, Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and Jammu and Kashmir Police are part of the security grid. 

Special traffic advisories have been issued to manage the traffic movement on the route used by G20 delegates to venue SKICC.

Around 60 delegates from G20 member countries are attending the meeting. G20 delegates are also expected to visit Poloview market situated in Srinagar’s uptown locality which has been revamped into a premium pedestrian market.

At a Press release, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said on Saturday, “The success of the upcoming tourism working group meeting of the G-20 countries will result in an increase in the influx of tourists and investments in Jammu and Kashmir.”

He also added, “The preparations have been done for the event by the administration and people of J&K.  G20’s 3rd tourism working group meeting in Srinagar historic opportunity for 13 million citizens of Jammu and Kashmir to showcase their priceless culture, heritage, tourism and warm hospitality”.
