NZ Win in a Thrilling Match and Pave Way for India’s WTC Qualifications

On the final day of play between NZ and SL that was interrupted by rain in Christchurch on Monday, Kane Williamson’s century helped New Zealand defeat Sri Lanka in a thrilling last-ball, two-wicket triumph.

The spinner and wicketkeeper were the only Sri Lankans not manning the boundary for the majority of the final 10 overs as New Zealand chased down their goal of 285. Following Williamson’s unsuccessful swipe at the last ball, the winning run was scored on a bye.

With this SL cannot have enough percentage points needed to qualify for the WTC final which is played in Ovel on June 7-11. Even if Sri Lanka wins the next following Test, they will only move up to 52.78 points following their defeat in Christchurch. India would finish on 58.80 after they draw with Australia who has already qualified because they will finish first on the list with a percentage of 64.91.

With this loss SL team and fans are sad for their team as they put their all effort to make their team qualify for the final.

Now Indians fans are feeling as despite ending up in a draw due to the SL loss they qualify for the match and will be playing the final with Australia for 2nd time in a row.
