Kantara for Oscar 2023: Qualified in 2 categories in Oscars contention list

Rishab Shetty’s Kantara was qualified for Oscars 2023 has made to the Academy Awards contention list for the Best Picture and Best Actor categories along with 301 films. With these qualifications, Kantara has begun its Oscar journey and soon we will know about its final nomination to Oscar awards. The voting for the Oscar will be starting from January 11 till January 17 and the final nominations will be announced on January 24.

Hombale Films Kantara produced by Vijay Kiragandur, is an action-thriller film released in September 2022. The film was written, directed, and acted by Rishab Shetty. The film is the second-highest-grossing Kannada film of the year 2022 and also the second-highest-grossing Kannada film of all time.

Director Rishab Shetty cited the conflict between nature and human beings as the theme of the film, while adding specifically that the strife between forest officers and the inhabitants in his hometown Keradi, Karnataka, in the 1990s, as the source of inspiration for the film. He further added, “It is a film from our land, from our roots, stories that are heard through generations, untapped and deeply rooted to our culture”.

The film’s cast, music and storyline was highly praised. Overall, it was a blockbuster hit at the box office.
