International Yoga Day 2023: Embracing Holistic Wellness

International Yoga Day 2023 Theme

Yoga is a holistic practice that promotes physical and mental relaxation as well as stress and anxiety reduction. To raise awareness, the 21st of June 2023 is designated as International Yog Day around the world. Yoga Day will be observed this year with the theme “Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam” from International Yoga Day 2023. Regular yoga practice has been proven to improve heart health, lower blood pressure, promote flexibility, and strengthen muscles. It can also help with lung function, inflammation, and overall mental health.

On 11 December 2014, the United Nations proclaimed 21 June as the International Day of Yoga by resolution 69/131, recognizing yoga’s broad popularity. Yoga’s goal is to join or unite; it represents the unification of body and consciousness.

The International Day Of Yoga offers the opportunity to study the principles of yoga and reap its many benefits. Yoga, a custom with Indian origins, is honored on International Yoga Day. This year’s theme, Vaudhav kutumbakam, which means “Earth is my home,” makes it even more unique. Yoga offers not only physical relaxation but also mental and emotional tranquility.

Why Do We Celebrate International Yoga Day 2023?

During his speech to the United Nations General Assembly on September 27, 2014, Prime Minister took the initiative to propose the International Day of Yoga. Yoga, according to PM Modi, is an Indian gift that may improve people’s health and happiness all around the world. On December 11, 2014, 193 of the United Nations member countries declared June 21 to be the International Day of Yoga. On June 21, 2015, the first day was commemorated.

International Yoga Day Program 2023

The Ministry of Ayush has announced numerous major programs to encourage mass participation in the 9th International Day of Yoga (IDY-2023). The Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga’s 100 Days, 100 Cities, and 100 Organisations initiative is one of them. This campaign, which runs from March 13 to June 21 and focuses on improving people’s health and well-being, aims to spread yoga knowledge throughout the country.

As part of the ‘Yog Bharatmala’ program, the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, Indian Coast Guard, and Border Road Organisation organise yoga demonstrations along borders, coasts, and islands. This project focuses on harnessing the potential of yoga in various geographical situations to improve the well-being of residents and communities.

Yoga demonstrations will take place in Ayush Ministries’ Health and Wellness Centres, as well as at numerous Amrit Sarovars. This year’s “Har Aangan Yog” event will reflect the actual essence and spirit of this holistic practice.

Aim of the International Yoga Day Theme 2023

The goal of International Yoga Day 2023 is to raise awareness of yoga’s holistic wellness philosophy. This remembering is critical for highlighting the importance of physical and mental well-being in modern civilization. The day also fosters the development of regular meditation practices to promote mental clarity and self-awareness, both of which are necessary for thriving in a stress-free environment. The goal is to develop mental, emotional, and spiritual balance in our fast-paced modern lives. Yoga promotes stress reduction, awareness, and general health and vitality.

The World Health Organisation has also urged its member countries to help their populations reduce physical inactivity. One of the top 10 global causes of death and a significant risk factor for noncommunicable diseases such as diabetes, cancer, and cardiovascular disease. Yoga, on the other hand, is more than just an exercise. Yoga, according to the late B. K. S. Iyengar, one of yoga’s most well-known practitioners, cultivates the abilities required to carry out one’s activities skillfully and endows one with the ability to maintain a balanced attitude in daily life.
