Noted theatre and film actress Sulabha Deshpande was cremated on June 5. Several celebrities and politicians attended the funeral.
Ms Deshpande died on June 4 due to prolonged illness. She was 79. The actress, who featured in numerous Marathi and Hindi films, was cremated at Shivaji Park crematorium in Dadar.
Filmmaker Govind Nihalani, actor Nana Patekar, actress Ratna Pathak Shah, politicians Sushil Kumar Shinde and Vinod Tawde were present. Many Marathi actors paid tribute to Ms Deshpande who was known for her spontaneity and simplicity.
In Hindi, she appeared in films like Bhumika (1977), Arvind Desai Ki Ajeeb Dastaan (1978) and Gaman (1978). Ms Deshpande’s last Bollywood film was Sridevi’s 2012 movie English Vinglish.
