ICC ODI men’s world cup is to be held in India this year, both The Indian team and Rohit Sharma will need to win the series in order to prepare for the ODI World Cup 2023 later in the year.
Both Rohit Sharma and Pat Cummins will miss their 1st ODI’ and teams will be led by stand-in captains Steve Smith and Hardik Pandya.
Rohit Sharma’s Team India will rekindle their white-ball battle with the guests in the action-packed One Day Internationals after claiming a record-extending fourth consecutive series victory against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (Test). As part of their current tour, the two-time world champions India will take on the Australian team in three ODIs series starting today at Mumbai Wankhede stadium.
Injuries of main players
Cummins won’t be replaced by anyone on Australia’s team, and Jhye Richardson, who was unable to play in the ODI series due to a hamstring injury, was earlier replaced by Nathan Ellis. Josh Hazlewood, the premier bowler for the visiting Australia, is also out due to an Achilles injury.
Shreyas Iyer, an Indian hitter, would be absent for the entire ODI series against Australia. Due to a persistent back issue, Iyer was forced to withdraw from the rest of the fourth Test on Monday. Rajat Patidar, a batsman from Madhya Pradesh, can replace Iyer in the Indian team for the three-match ODI series against Australia.
Preventing the previous T20 World Cup error
Even though India advanced to the last year’s T20 World Cup semifinals, the tournament’s lead-up wasn’t great. The Australian series will be the ideal setting to locate the appropriate players for the proper roles after the Indian team management battles to establish the best possible lineup for the competition.
Rishabh Pant won’t be available for India, and Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness is a major concern. Although it appears that Shubman Gill is winning the race for the opener position, India will require a set batter in that position going into the ICC competition.
This year, it will also be crucial to locate a Bumrah backup, and the Australia series will be the ideal venue for doing so.
