A 22-year-old techie died after drowning in a flooded K R Circle underpass.
The victim, Bhanurekha, had been working in Infosys in Bangalore since last year. She was basically from Andhra Pradesh and her family was coming to visit her. The SUV car in which she was with her 5 family members got stuck under the pass. Other family members were rescued.
Police have registered the case against the engineers’ civic agency and the cab driver.
The police had arrested the cab driver but the accused is on bail as it is a bailable offense under IPC section 304 A.
Harish, the cab driver, told the media that He saw an autorickshaw and a car crossing the road. When he was weighing the possibility of crossing it, an autorickshaw driver advised him to go ahead.
“That autorickshaw driver stopped but insisted that I should go, so I crossed. In just two minutes the entire underpass was filled with water and the car’s engine got switched off,” he told reporters.
Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah announced a compensation of ₹5 lahks to the kin of the deceased and also visited the family members of the victim on Sunday. BBMP officials have been asked to clear the silt from all underpasses in preparation for the monsoons.
