In the Narendra Modi ji’s government, Jaitley was a centre-piece and was the Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting of Corporate Affairs and held the all-important Ministries of Finance and Defence. He was also leader of the house in the Rajya Sabha since the Modi government came into office and had been a member of the upper house from Gujarat since 2000. In the Atal Ji’s government, Jaitley held the ministry of Information and Broadcasting while simultaneously holding Independent Charge of the Department of Disinvestment and later hold the Ministry of Law, Justice and Company Affairs and the Ministry of Shipping.
Arun Jaitley Ji was a political giant, towering intellectual and legal luminary. He was an articulate leader who made a lasting contribution to India. His passing away is very saddening. Spoke to his wife Sangeeta Ji as well as son Rohan, and expressed condolences. Om Shanti.

With the demise of Arun Jaitley Ji, I have lost a valued friend, whom I have had the honour of knowing for decades. His insight on issues and nuanced understanding of matters had very few parallels. He lived well, leaving us all with innumerable happy memories. We will miss him!
