A 17-year-old girl cracked the JEE Mains but committed suicide as she did not want to pursue a career in engineering. According to police, the girl, identified as Kriti Tripathi, jumped from the 5th floor of the building where she was staying in Kota.
Harish Bharti, Station House Officer, Jawharnagar police station said that the girl was immediately rushed to hospital where the doctors declared her brought dead. The incident took place on Thursday.
Harish said that the suicide note recovered from her room indicates that she did not want to pursue a career in engineering. The JEE Mains results were announced on Wednesday. Harish informed that girl had scored 144 marks in the exam which is around 44 more than the cut-off of 100 marks for general category candidates.
Police said that she used to live with her father, a resident of Delhi, in a rented flat in Indira Vihar area. The student had been taking coaching for the IIT-JEE entrance exam for the last 2 years in Kota.
Kota, the coaching hub for various engineering and medical entrance examinations, has been witnessing an increasing trend in student suicides with the figure touching 18 last year.
This is the fifth case of student suicide in Kota this year.
