What’s up with #MeToo ?

Presently #MeToo is a trending topic on the social media. It is trending on Twitter and shared widely on Facebook.

#MeToo campaign was started by an American actress, Alyssa Milano.

The allegations on a Hollywood actor, Harvey Weinstein that he molested and sexually abused women has initiated the campaign.

Actress Alyssa Milano tweeted a note saying:

“Me Too.

Suggested by a friend: “If all the women who have been sexually harassed or assaulted wrote ‘Me Too’ as a status, we might give people a sense of the magnitude of the problem. ”

Women were asked to put #MeToo as their status if they have gone through any kind of sexual abuse or harassment or molestation.

Alyssa Milano’s tweet had more than 11,000 retweets and 30,000 responses. Among them, there were a few men too who copy-pasted the message to their status and wrote #MeToo.  Also, among the people who were a part of the #MeToo campaign were celebrities like Anna Paquin, Mallika Dua, Laura Dreyfuss, Debra Messing etc.

Thousands have posted these words on their social media accounts. The massive response shows how evil is embedded in our society.  A lot of people have used social media as an opportunity to share their stories. One Twitter user said- “I have typed [and] deleted this more times than I can count. I learned about evil before any person should. I am heartbroken at how the cycle continues and to see how many others have suffered because of it”.
