Indian female boxers rewrote history at the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championship, winning four gold medals. India took first place in the championship’s gold medal count at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex in New Delhi. In 12 weight categories, 324 boxers—including several Olympic medalists—from 65 different nations competed.

For the nation, gold medals were won by Nitu Ghanghas (48 kg), Nikhat Zareen (50 kg), Lovlina Borgohain (75 kg), and Saweety Boora (81 kg).
Nikhat won the gold medal for a second year running after defeating Nguyen Thi Tam of Vietnam. A bronze medalist at the Tokyo Olympics, Lovlina defeated Australian Caitlin Parker for her first Worlds gold. A three-time Asian medalist, Saweety Boora, and Nitu Ghanghas defeated Wang Lina of China and Lutsaikhan Altantsetseg of Mongolia to win the gold. Each fighter received $100,000 (INR 82.7 lakhs) as prize money for winning the title of World Champion in their respective divisions.
