Disney+ Hotstar on Friday declared to stream Asia Cup and ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup for free.
Now smartphone users across India will be able to watch Asia Cup and ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup this year for free on the OTT platform.
“The move to lift the paywall for mobile-only viewers of both, the Asia Cup and the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, is aimed at further democratizing the game of cricket and making it accessible to as many mobile users in India as possible for the duration of the season,” the company stated in a press release.
On the free streaming decision of two big cricketing events, Disney+ Hotstar believes to engage more viewers across the country.
Head of Disney+ Hotstar, Sajith Sivanandan said, “Disney+ Hotstar has remained at the forefront of the rapidly evolving OTT industry in India and the various innovations we have introduced to continue enhancing the viewer experience has allowed us to delight our audiences across the region. Making the Asia Cup 2023 and ICC ODI World Cup 2023 available to a mass audience, We Believe and Wants to grow the OTT Platform in India to the next level.”
Asia Cup 2023 has been scheduled for September and the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup is scheduled from 5th October to 19th November.
This decision has been made after the huge success of the live streaming of IPL on JioCinema
According to the official press release, the main aim behind the free streaming of these cricket matches on Disney+ Hotstar free is to “democratize the game of cricket.”
Last year, Disney Star was given the rights for all ICC tournaments till 2027.
