On Wednesday afternoon, Mumbai Police said that, Anil Mehta, the step-father of Malaika and Amrita Arora, committed suicide.  He took his own life by falling from the balcony of his Bandra residence. The family has not yet given any statements on this tragedy. The circumstances surrounding his death are still under investigation and senior Mumbai police officers are on site. However, Malaika’s close companions claimed that it was an accident, “It’s an accident. We will be sharing the police panchnama once we receive it,” according to the reports.

Malaika was apparently in Pune at the time of the incident and reached at her parents’ Bandra residence after her step-father’s tragic death. Arbaaz Khan’s family also came to the house; his sister Alvira Agnihotri, brother Sohail Khan and parents Salim Khan-Salma Khan. Arjun Kapoor arrived at Anil’s home as well. Moreover, Malaika’s friends Karishma Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Saif Ali Khan and many others were also spotted at her house.

People on the internet were confused as to why Malaika, whose step-father was named Anil Mehta, was not going by the surname Arora. Later on it was revealed that Anil is Malika’s step father. Her biological father and her mother were separated when Malaika was 11 years old. The confusion between her step-father and biological father arises because her biological father’s name is Anil Arora.

Mehta, 62, jumped off the sixth floor of the affluent Bandra building, “Ayesha Manor” where he resided with his wife.The officials stated that the Bandra police team responded quickly to the scene and took him to the hospital where he was declared dead before arrival.

The actress took to Instagram and shared a tragic note that said, “He was a gentle soul, a devoted grandfather, a loving husband, and our best friend. Our family is in deep shock by this loss, and we kindly request privacy from the media and well-wishers during this difficult time.”
