The Commonwealth Games 2022 are currently underway in Birmingham, with a number of star Indian athletes taking center stage. On Day 5 of the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, India gained four more medals, the existing tally of 9. 

The women’s fours Lawn Bowls team, which won gold, received all the attention. India’s first medal in the sport was won by the Indian team, which defeated South Africa 17-10 in the championship. Then, the men’s table tennis team defeated Singapore in the championship match to win India’s sixth gold medal overall. Vikas Thakur won the silver medal in the men’s 96 kg weightlifting a short while later.

The mixed badminton team lost against Malaysia in the championship match late at night, taking home the silver medal instead. In the women’s discus throw, India was hoping for at least a medal, but neither Seema Punia nor Navjeet Kaur Dhillon delivered. Additionally, the women’s hockey team lost to England 1-3 in a Pool A encounter. Men’s long jump competitors Muhammad Anees Yahiya and Murali Sreeshankar, men’s high jump competitor Tejaswini Shakar, and women’s shot put competitor Manpreet Kaur all qualified for the finals. However, Dutee Chand was unable to advance to the women’s 100m final. Even squash ace Saurav Ghosal was defeated in the men’s singles semifinal. In the men’s welterweight class of boxing, Rohit Tokas defeated Alfred Kotey of Ghana to advance to the quarterfinals.
